Hello! And Welcome back to the Live Life Off Leash Blog!
Today we have a fun topic. Can my dog eat that?! We all love to give our dogs a little extra treat every now and then from the kitchen. But how do you determine what table scraps you could give your dog that wont hurt them versus something that could be potentially toxic? Well we've created a simple list of a few things you CAN and a few things you CANNOT feed your dog from the dinner table.
Let's start with what they CAN have from the dinner table!
1) Blueberries! Blueberries are full on antioxidants and good for our four legged K9 friends. Some dogs are not fond of the taste, but they are perfectly safe for them. 2) Popcorn is number 2 on the list! Just make sure it's not overly salted and popcorn is a fun easy treat in moderation. 3) Apples are another fruit that is tasty, crunchy and good for your pooch! 4) Sweet potatoes are last on our list of fun and safe things to give your dog. Now for what they CANNOT have from the dinner table!
1) Grapes and Rasins contain a highly toxic compounds that can cause rapid liver failure. Never feed these to your dogs.
2) Chocolate comes in as number 2. Most folks already know about chocolate, but since it is so highly toxic it's always worth reiterating.
3) Avocados are a little known poison to dogs. You never want to feed these to your dog.
4) And number 4 for our list is Garlic. Another lesser known toxic food for dogs. Always avoid feeding anything with garlic in it to your dogs.
These are just a few of the things you can and cannot feed your dogs from the kitchen. As always, when in doubt ask your vet to help you determine if something is safe for your pet. Adding some fun foods as a treat now and then can add some variety and enrichment to your pet's life. If you have questions about nutrition for your dog, we'd love to chat and help you out!
