Hit the Road!

Hi! Welcome back to the Live Life Off Leash Blog!

It's summer! And that means vacations, camping trips and road trips! If you are one of those pet parents that loves to travel with their dog this blog is for you! Here we will give you some great tips and tricks for adventuring with your dog this summer!

First off, what to bring? Obviously your pet will need a supply of food and water to last the duration of the trip. But don't get in a rush when packing. Make sure to add these items to your packing list:

  • Food and Water Bowls (bonus space saver if they are collapsible)

  • Leashes, harnesses, collars, halties, whatever you use.

  • Carabiners! These are so great when needing to tie out, tie to your belt, anything! So handy, have a few!

  • Crate and bedding

  • First Aid Kit (K9 Friendly)

Never traveled with your dog? Here's some tried and true tips from veteran travelers.

  • Practice, practice, practice! If your dog is not used to being in the car, that is one of the first things you need to start desensitizing them to before a long road trip. Start with taking short 10-15 minute drives around the block, and reward them for good behavior. Keep extending the duration until your dog feels at home in the car. It will make your trip a 100 times better if they are happy being in the car!

  • Exercise! Don't forget it's hard for everyone to sit in a car for 8+ hours. Take plenty of stops and don't forget to exercise your dog. Make sure to plan your trip in a way that allows for them to get their energy out. Walking, hiking, cycling, swimming and even dog parks are a good way to let your dog the their energy out while traveling.

Follow these tips and you'll have a fun and adventure filled trip this summer. If you have questions please reach out. We'd also love to hear your tried and true travel tips! Let us know on Facebook, Instagram or TikTok!
