Let's Talk Poo!

Hi friends, and welcome back to the Live Life Off Leash Blog!

What's the one chore every pet parent hates to deal with? Cleaning up poo of course! Whether you are picking up poo in a baggie on a walk, a pooper scooper in the yard, or sifting through litter boxes, picking up poo is the worst! Let's be honest, it's time consuming and even for the most unperturbed pet parent, it's just yucky. But did you know that nutrition can play a big part in how yucky and time consuming picking up after your pet can be? Let's dive into it. Let's talk Poo!!

Poo can be a big indicator of your pet's over all health. Just like in people, the size, consistency, how often, and yes even smell can be an indicator of if you pet is healthy and is getting their nutritional needs met or not. We've all heard what goes up, must come down... well, when it comes to pet food, what goes in doesn't have to necessarily come out! Healthy pet poos are over all firm, and should correspond with how often they eat. For example a healthy pet that gets fed twice a day should poo 2-3 times a day around the same time they are fed. A healthy digestive system is like clockwork. Of course that doesn't account for treats. And really, the smell should not be over powering.

A pet that is pooing a lot is often an indication of poor quality food, poor quality gut health, or being fed too much. All can contribute to poor health. Loose or overly pungent poos are also a sign of poor digestive health. Pet that are on a high quality diet, pro and pre biotics should have significantly fewer and firmer poos. Making clean up much easier and not near as yucky as a pet that has digestive upset. One of the may reasons we feed pawTree is because we know the ingredients are great, they have digestive supplements to aid in even better gut health and it makes food waste less. Our money goes into our pet's nutrition, instead of quiet literally in one end and out the other!

If you have concerns about your pet's nutrition because of how often you're having to pick up after them or the consistency or smell, reach out! We'd love to talk poo with you!
